Availability

Part of SEO is site availability, so recently we have installed NginX reverse proxies on the front of our apache webserver, this enables more simultaneous connections to be handled and helps to mitigate DDoS attacks by filtering requests to apache.

Our Active firewall cluster, allows one server being attacked to share the ip of its attacker with other machines in the cluster, so they can be “pro actively” protected.

Some tuning will be necessary, but the servers will be more secure.

More URL Changes

I have been looking at other sites like ours and seeing if therer are any changes in keywords that would be beneficial for us.

Any great keywords will be put into our URLs, others will be dotted around in the text on the page.

Have decided again puting any money into Facebook / Google ads, as money spent vs trade gained is not a high enough ratio for me.

Page Redesign

I have started to get some quotes for a professional redesign as  traffic is up, but conversions are not high enough!

Started moving URLs

Made the first few URL changes and redirects, will now be checking the analytics to see whether this improves or lesson the number of hits for these pages.

House Keeping

Got side-tracked into performing loads of house keeping.

Moved shtn.co, our shortener, to xtn.co (with 301 redirect so that shtn.co works for the moment), saves on a character and saves £20 a year. redirect.co being moved shortly!!! So will have shtn.co and redirect.co for sale prior to expiry if anyone is interested!

Splitting various sites to different class c networks and setting up each of my domains with child nameservers.

Today started new SEO plan for www.UnixGuru.co.uk

Looked at our main website www.UnixGuru.co.uk and realised that there are too many words everywhere.

Sat down to design new page URL structure. Home -> Pathway Pages -> Final Pages etc.

My design will be more pages, with simpler choices and much less text.

Next stage will be mapping my current URLs.
